In the first two months of the year, the IMAE recorded a variation of 5.3% compared to the same period of 2016, mainly explained by the performance of transport, storage and communications activities.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance:

Between January and February 2017, the country's economic activities recorded an increase of 5.23% compared to the same period in 2016, which represents an improvement of 0.93 percentage points, according to the Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE).

As for the activities that contributed the most to the growth of the country, they were: transportation, storage and communications encouraged by the activities of the Panama Canal. In February, the volume of cargo transited through the inter-oceanic route grew by 26.3%, while toll revenue increased by 17%.
