Aluminum Market in Central America


From January to September 2017, countries in the region imported $430 million worth of aluminum and its manufactures, and 45% was purchased by companies in Costa Rica and Guatemala.

Imports by country

Between January and September of 2017, the main importer of aluminum and its manufactures into Central America was Costa Rica, with $100 million, followed by Guatemala, with $93 million, Panama, with $85 million, El Salvador, with $65 million, Honduras, with $51 million and Nicaragua, with $35 million.


Variation of regional imports 

Between the first nine months of 2016 and 2017, the value imported into the region did not vary significantly, as it decreased from $431 million to $430 million.


The monthly series of the value of imports for the period from January 2012 to September 2017 shows that the amount purchased abroad ranged between $34 million and $75 million.
