Costa Rica Construction Prices at End of 2017

The indices of prices for buildings and low-income housing registered inter-annual variations of 7.31% and 3.46%, respectively, in the last month of the year.

From a statement issued by the National Institute of Statistics and Census:

 

Price indices for construction based on February 2012 are a set of twenty statistical indicators, which measure the change in prices of materials used in the construction of different kinds of works. They are composed of the buildings price index, the social housing price index, and a group of nineteen price indices for raw materials and special services.

 

In December 2017, the variations of each of these price indices were:

 

Buildings price index (percentage changes December 2017) 

Monthly: 0.46% (December 2017)

Year-on-year: 7.31% (January 2017 to December 2017)

 

The level of the building price index is 106.080, while in the previous month it was 1105.596. The elements that had the greatest positive contribution in the monthly variation of December 2017 were: copper cable and EMT tube.

 

Price index of social housing (percentage changes December 2017)

Monthly: 0.18% (December 2017)

Year-on-year: 3.46% (January 2017 to December 2017)

 

The level of the index for prices of social interest housing is 105.236, compared to the previous month when it was 105.426. The elements that had the greatest negative contribution to the monthly variation of December 2017 were: blocks and ceramics.
